DDR4 is the new standard in system memory. DDR2 and DDR3 are stories of past, I know there are systems still around with DDR3 and few of them with DDR2 memory but if you are going to build a new system you won’t be picking up anything but DDR4 RAMs.

We need to consider few things before we make our purchase, we should make use of the Dual Channel or Quad Channel memory configuration or whatever your motherboard features, so buy RAMs in 2, 3 and 4 Sticks pair and install them in matching banks or if you want to fill all the RAM slots in your Motherboard then make purchases in 4, 6 and 8 Sticks pair.
Also, buy at least 8GB capacity of RAM whether you are gaming, video editing or multitasking, a minimum of 8GB RAM is recommended, you can either install single 8GB stick or you can install two 8GB sticks to run Dual Channel Configuration.

DDR3 RAM has become a lot more better in value than it was few months back. Now this is the right time to get a pair or two of DDR3 memory for your system specially since DDR2 price has gone up and close to DDR3 prices.
DDR3(Double Data Rate 3) is a newer, faster and most advanced technology in system RAM but…… yes there is a but, DDR3 is not always faster than DDR2, specially when it’s lower in speed, lets say you have DDR2 running at 1066MHz and DDR3 running at same 1066MHz speed results will be very disappointing from DDR3 prospective.
Because at 1066MHz speed DDR3 RAM will run at cas 9 timings whereas DDR2 at same speed will be running at cas 5 timings and you just can’t run DDR3 at 1066MHz with cas 5 timings and if somehow you succeed in running DDR3 1066MHz at cas-5 timing you will have stability issues.
Bandwidth And Latency Times!
To give you better understanding of what is bandwidth and what is latency timing here is a short note:
1. This is the SPEED at which memory works, higher bandwidth means faster data transfer.
2. A 1066MHz speed memory goes faster through clock cycles than 800MHz speed.
Cas Latency (tCL):
What is Cas Latency? it’s very simple to understand it:
1. This is the TIME (in clock cycles) it takes between arrival of request for the data and it being delivered, for example you wait if you RAM is CAS 2 it will take 2 clock cycles to perfom the task.
2. The request is sent from the memory controller to the memory module.
I am sure that now you have the understanding of how memory works, higher bandwidth memory works faster but higher latency times takes longer to fetch data, so it will make a 1066MHz DDR3 look no faster and in some cases even slower than a DDR2 800MHz, that’s why you see memories with lower latency times priced higher than same speeded memories with higher latency times.
DDR3 is power efficient than DDR2, DDR3 at higher bandwidth performs faster than DDR2 and consumes less power than DDR2. DDR3 requires 1.5V to properly run whereas DDR2 has the voltage requirement of 1.8V.
DDR2/DDR3 Hybrid Boards!
If you are one of those lucky ones who have a DDR2/DDR3 hybrid board, a board that has both DDR2 and DDR3 slots and you want to upgrade your RAM you better stick with DDR3 instead of DDR2, the only reason I can give you is the price at the moment, these days price is playing a big role in memory. If you already have DDR2 RAM then sell them and upgrade by getting a pair of DDR3 RAM.

Faster Speed DDR3 Memory!
By faster speed I mean higher bandwidth memory.
When buying system memory it makes sense when you pay just 20 to 30 dollars more to get a 4GB kit of higher speed DDR3 RAM than a 4GB kit of DDR2 running at 1066MHz. Always go for a faster pair of DDR3 memory because a DDR3 at speed of 1066MHz with timings set at 9-9-9-18 will perform worse than a set of DDR2 running at same 1066MHz speed with 5-5-5-15 timings.
Slower latencies is the only reason to avoid lower speed DDR3, price used to play an important role but not anymore because today almost all RAM companies has increased DDR3 production which result in decreased prices for DDR3 RAM and increased prices for DDR2 RAM, but the biggest draw back is slower latencies.
So I suggest you to stay away from entry level DDR3, entry level DDR3 doesn’t perform on par with high level DDR2 and you can’t compare entry level DDR3 with enthusiast level DDR2 because the performance difference will be too much just because of latency timings.
The downside of DDR2 is bandwidth and upside is latency timings, whereas the downside of DDR3 memory is timings and upside is bandwidth, so if you go for DDR3 make sure it’s higher bandwidth DDR3 to be on safe side.
So before you invest into very high priced DDR2 think twice. If you are building a totally new rig I will highly recommend you to go with DDR3 system. There isn’t much difference in a kit of 4GB DDR2 and DDR3 RAMs. You can even find 4GB kit of some enthusiast level DDR3 RAMs running at 1800MHz speed for the same price of DDR2 4GB kit running at 1200MHz speed or lower 1066MHz speed. Make sure you keep these points in mind before you upgrade your system memory.
So don’t be a fool and invest wisely.

Difference Between Radeon HD 4890 (RV790) And Radeon HD 4870 (RV770):
RV790 is nothing of an advancement in technology rather an advancement in RV770 graphics processor. RV770 and RV790 looks similar, but they are not identical, RV790 comes with a different layout of the die and the pin count is also not compatible with RV770 boards.
Beside higher clock speed ATI’s RV790 has improved shader efficiency, which will help RV790 to perform a bit faster than it’s predecessor RV770 even at the same clock and specification. ATI actually done something good with the shaders of RV790 to improve overall performance of the graphics processor. Higher clocks will require more power and 6+8 pin power connectors present in HD 4890 instead of 6+6 ones of HD 4870 is a sign of that.

While we are at this topic I should show you guys the upcoming Radeon HD 4890, it’s from ATI and it’s reference design, but we can expect some custom designed HD 4890 video cards after it’s official launch.

On March 3rd 2009, Nvidia has officially renamed their GeForce 9800 GTX+ video card to GeForce GTS 250 and this is the first gpu of Nvidia’s GeForce GTS 200 series and another card that is said to come from this series is GTS 240 which is a rebranded 9800 GT, this series of cards are based on Nvidia’s 55nm G92b core, Nvidia is schedule to officially rename its G92-based graphics cards series.
It all started with 8800 GTS rebranded to 9800 GTX and 9800 GTX get an overclocked version which is 9800 GTX+ in which Nvidia upped the clocks by reducing the die from 65nm to 55nm and finally it gets the name of GeForce GTS 250. Nvidia’s GeForce 9800 GTX+ was released in July 2008 with a purpose to compete ATI’s Radeon HD 4850.

I know the whole internet is full of why the hell is Nvidia bringing a gpu that is already in the market, yes, there is no difference in both 9800 GTX+ and GTS 250, but, GTS 250 has slight differences and the main difference is a new VBIOS, also Nvidia set the standard memory for GTS 250 to 1GB instead of 512MB and some of Nvidia partners are going to launch even 2GB memory version of this graphics card. Another difference is GTS 250 length, this card has a 9 inches long PCB instead of large 10.5 inches long PCB of 9800 GTX+. Another change is that GTS 250 requires only one PCI-Express power connector instead of two power connectors and runs at maximum TDP of 150W which is good for users with older power supplies that have only one PCI-E power connector. Beside this slight difference between GeForce GTS 250 and GeForce 9800 GTX+, both cards comes with same specs and features.
Nothing to get excited because GTS 250 is rebranded 9800 GTX+, 9800 GTX+ is an overclocked 9800 GTX and 9800 GTX is a rebranded 8800 GTS.
But still I will list specifications here, GPU clocks for this card are 738MHz and Stream Processors are running at 1836MHz, it has 128 Shader Processors and Texture Fill Rate is 47.2 billion/sec. Standard Memory configuration is 512MB or 1GB GDDR3 with a Memory Interface Width of 256-bit, Memory Clocks are at 1100MHz (2200MHz Effective) and Memory Bandwidth is 70.4GB/sec.

Nvidia SLI support has finally arrive to Intel’s DX58SO motherboard codenamed Smackover, which is Intel’s manufactured motherboard with their X58 Express chipset. Last year Intel launched their Core i7 line of processors and along came this new motherboard from Intel to support the Core i7 CPU series, even though the chipset X58 supports Nvidia SLI which is a multi-GPU configuration, Intel didn’t implement it in their DX58SO motherboard. Morning of Feb-11-2009 Nvidia announced that Intel has given them license to bring their multi-gpu support for Intel’s DX58SO motherboard. So, from now on Intel Smackover will support Nvidia SLI even in Quad-SLI config on its dual PCI-E 2.0 x16 slots, you can use any (any means any, doesn’t have to be two same gpus) two GeForce GPUs for SLI configuration, for best performance in Quad SLI your best option is a pair of GeForce GTX 295. As most of you know that Intel’s dual cpu platform Skulltrail has an embedded Nvidia PCI Express controller to run SLI config whereas Intel DX58SO Smackover motherboard simply has an embedded key in motherboard bios from Nvidia and Forceware drivers will enable SLI once key is located from the motherboard bios.

Windows 7 is expected to be released in the first quarter of 2010 and Windows 7 will come with DirectX 11, near the end of this year 2009 we can expect some DirectX 11 hardware’s. Nvidia and ATI are said to launch their DirectX 11 graphics cards at the end of this year, these cards will be based on 40nm process technology and in 1st or 2nd quarter of 2010 we can expect some DirectX 11 games too.
Nvidia’s 40nm video cards with DirectX 10 support are rumored to launch in Q2 of 2009 and their next generation 40nm card will most likely to hit market in December of this year which will come with DirectX 11 support.
1st generation of 40nm cards from Nvidia will be identical to GT200 chip, though it will be a die shrink from 55nm to 40nm there will be some changes in specification as this will not be the same GT200 chip but rather a totally new chip build on a smaller die. Die shrink also mean smaller transistors, lower TDP and less heat dissipation which will result in better overclocking GPU.
These 40nm chips are likely to come with increased shaders, clusters, ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines) and TMUs (Texture Memory Units), at higher clocks.
Though the rumors are Nvidia and AMD both will launch their 40nm fabricated chips in March or April of 2009, there are no exact words on who will launch a high-end GPU and who will bring a Mainstream GPU?.
Intel has already introduced their energy-efficient CPUs of Quad Core lineup on Jan-19-2009, these three low power consuming CPUs were introduced for Core 2 Quad lineup, Q8200s, Q9400s, Q9550s, these cpu’s comes with a TDP of 65W. This is not the end of the story, Intel is also planning to launch 45nm Lynnfield Core i5 processors in August or September of this year, these processors will be of LGA1156 socket and will come with a TDP of 95W.
Later in Q1 2010 Intel will release the same 45nm Lynnfield Core i5 processors with a lower TDP of 65W. The purpose of these low power CPUs are not only to bring down energy consumption of cpu’s but also to enable scalability to even those platforms that are developed for cpu’s with power rating of 65W.
News of Nvidia’s enhanced version of GeForce 9600GT are surrounding on the web. This new 9600GT will be called GeForce 9600GT Green Edition. What’s new in this card? it will help you save energy, it consumes less power that’s why it’s called Green Edition. Since this card consumes less power I believe it will overclock better because less power consumption means less heat dissipation and cooler operation. This card is fabricated on 55nm process technology just like original GeForce 9600GT.
GeForce 9600GT Core Names were G94-300/G94-309 G94-350/G94-359, it’s Core Clock was 650MHz, Shader Clock was 1625MHz, Memory Clock was 900MHz and power consumption was 96W.
9600GT Green Edition Core Name will be G94-350/G94-359, Core Clock will be at 600MHz, Shader Clock at 1500MHz, Memory Clock to be exact 900MHz as GeForce 9600GT and power consumption will be 59W.
Power consumption is a whopping 37W less than it’s predecessor, also this Green Edition does not require an external power connector and it’s voltage has reduced from previous 1.1V to 1.0V. Though all this info found it’s way to web there are no words when this card will be available in market or what will be the price of this product.
