Nvidia has released it’s GeForce WHQL-signed driver, version is 195.62, they released it the day after they released Version 195.62 in beta mode. These drivers provide support for their GeForce series of GPU’s which includes, GeForce 6, 7, 8, 100 and 200 series, plus these drivers has ION desktop GPU support.

GeForce 195.62 WHQL Certified Drivers comes with following changes:

  • Smoother Online HD videos in Adobe Flash 10.1 beta through GPU Acceleration support.
  • GeForce GT 240 GPU support.
  • OpenCL 1.0 (Open Computing Language) support for GeForce 8 and later series of GPU’s.
  • CUDA ToolKit 3.0 features and performance enhancements.
  • New gaming titles Borderlands, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, FIFA Soccer 10 and more gets SLI and multi-GPU support.

Shortly after releasing GeForce 182.46 BETA drivers NVIDIA just released another version of their GeForce drivers, GeForce 182.47 BETA Driver with OpenGL 3.1 Support.

ATI Vs Nvidia!
ATI, the graphics division of AMD is working full force to win the battle which is going on between them and Nvidia, I know that right now Nvidia is the king when it comes to high-end graphics cards, their single gpu GeForce GTX 285 and dual gpu GeForce GTX 295 are unbeatable but ATI is taking the lead in mid-range cards with price vs performance ratio.
ATI, after cutting prices for their Radeon HD 4800 series has become very competitive for Nvidia in mainstream level.

Nvidia GeForce GTS 250 VS ATI Radeon HD 4870!
ATI Radeon HD 4870 is a performance mainstream video card that performs close to and in some games neck-to-neck with Nvidia’s GeForce GTX 260 (216 Core) video card and Nvidia’s GeForce GTX 260 (216 Core) graphics card is available for around $240.00 whereas ATI’s Radeon HD 4870 card sells for around $210.00, so, price/performance ratio wise ATI wins here.
Nvidia recently launched GeForce GTS 250 video card and Radeon HD 4850 video card which sells for around $150.00 is the main competitor of GeForce GTS 250. Benchmarks seen over at internet shows that GeForce GTS 250 takes the lead in most of the games over Radeon HD 4850 and GeForce 9800 GTX+.
If you will compare GeForce GTS 250 to Radeon HD 4870, GeForce GTS 250 will left behind by Radeon HD 4870 in almost all of the games, so, I don’t think there is any point in comparing GTS 250 with HD 4870.
This battle which is going on between ATI and Nvidia is not going to over here because when one company take some action the other one does something in it’s reaction, so, expect more to come your way, it’s good for you. 🙂

At the moment there are only three GeForce GTS 250’s are available and most of them are available for pre-order, from three available cards one is from XFX which is a 512MB version with stock clocks for $149.99 and the other one is from Gigabyte for $179.95 which is a 1GB version with Zalman cooling fan installed on it and there is also a 512MB overclocked version from BFG available for $169.99.
These GeForce GTS 250 video cards are based on 55nm G92b, featuring 128 stream processors, these card require only one 6pin power supply connector.

On March 3rd 2009, Nvidia has officially renamed their GeForce 9800 GTX+ video card to GeForce GTS 250 and this is the first gpu of Nvidia’s GeForce GTS 200 series and another card that is said to come from this series is GTS 240 which is a rebranded 9800 GT, this series of cards are based on Nvidia’s 55nm G92b core, Nvidia is schedule to officially rename its G92-based graphics cards series.
It all started with 8800 GTS rebranded to 9800 GTX and 9800 GTX get an overclocked version which is 9800 GTX+ in which Nvidia upped the clocks by reducing the die from 65nm to 55nm and finally it gets the name of GeForce GTS 250. Nvidia’s GeForce 9800 GTX+ was released in July 2008 with a purpose to compete ATI’s Radeon HD 4850.

I know the whole internet is full of why the hell is Nvidia bringing a gpu that is already in the market, yes, there is no difference in both 9800 GTX+ and GTS 250, but, GTS 250 has slight differences and the main difference is a new VBIOS, also Nvidia set the standard memory for GTS 250 to 1GB instead of 512MB and some of Nvidia partners are going to launch even 2GB memory version of this graphics card. Another difference is GTS 250 length, this card has a 9 inches long PCB instead of large 10.5 inches long PCB of 9800 GTX+. Another change is that GTS 250 requires only one PCI-Express power connector instead of two power connectors and runs at maximum TDP of 150W which is good for users with older power supplies that have only one PCI-E power connector. Beside this slight difference between GeForce GTS 250 and GeForce 9800 GTX+, both cards comes with same specs and features.

Specifications
Nothing to get excited because GTS 250 is rebranded 9800 GTX+, 9800 GTX+ is an overclocked 9800 GTX and 9800 GTX is a rebranded 8800 GTS.
But still I will list specifications here, GPU clocks for this card are 738MHz and Stream Processors are running at 1836MHz, it has 128 Shader Processors and Texture Fill Rate is 47.2 billion/sec. Standard Memory configuration is 512MB or 1GB GDDR3 with a Memory Interface Width of 256-bit, Memory Clocks are at 1100MHz (2200MHz Effective) and Memory Bandwidth is 70.4GB/sec.

Nvidia has just released Forceware GeForce drivers for Microsoft Windows 7 Beta, driver version is 181.71, this driver set is in Beta mode which works with GeForce 6, 7, 8, 9 and 200 series video cards. These drivers supports 32-bit and 64-bit versions of current Windows 7 Beta edition. This is the first release of Forceware GeForce drivers from Nvidia and a begining of regular NVIDIA driver updates for Microsoft’s upcoming operating system Windows 7.

EVGA is the first one to release a GTX 285 graphics card with water-cooling block installed on it. Though there is no design change in pcb they simply slap the water block on the card, despite the fact that it’s a reference designed video card it’s water cooling solution sure helps with better overclocking.

Availability and Price:
At the moment price and arrival of both of these cards is unknown, so, we should wait and see, you can expect to pay a hefty amount to purchase one of these cards.

Nvidia SLI support has finally arrive to Intel’s DX58SO motherboard codenamed Smackover, which is Intel’s manufactured motherboard with their X58 Express chipset. Last year Intel launched their Core i7 line of processors and along came this new motherboard from Intel to support the Core i7 CPU series, even though the chipset X58 supports Nvidia SLI which is a multi-GPU configuration, Intel didn’t implement it in their DX58SO motherboard. Morning of Feb-11-2009 Nvidia announced that Intel has given them license to bring their multi-gpu support for Intel’s DX58SO motherboard. So, from now on Intel Smackover will support Nvidia SLI even in Quad-SLI config on its dual PCI-E 2.0 x16 slots, you can use any (any means any, doesn’t have to be two same gpus) two GeForce GPUs for SLI configuration, for best performance in Quad SLI your best option is a pair of GeForce GTX 295. As most of you know that Intel’s dual cpu platform Skulltrail has an embedded Nvidia PCI Express controller to run SLI config whereas Intel DX58SO Smackover motherboard simply has an embedded key in motherboard bios from Nvidia and Forceware drivers will enable SLI once key is located from the motherboard bios.
