In a response to ATI’s price cut for their Radeon HD 4870 card, which is a close competitor of GeForce GTX 260, Nvidia has reduced the prices of their GeForce GTX 260, this is the price cut for their 216-Core 55nm-based GTX 260 video cards. Highly overclocked versions of GTX 260 are selling at $200+, mostly stock clocked versions and some moderately overclocked versions are available at under $200.

Lets hope that Nvidia’s GeForce GTS 250 get a reduction in price and start selling at around $100, currently it sells at price of $150.
GeForce GTX 260 216 Core is one of the best video card to be honest, actually it’s a beast, you run any game with this card and it will run them smoothly without any lagging, it’s performance will leave you with amazement, I highly recommend you get one if you don’t have one already, I think at this price point you can’t ask for more though you can greed for more price reduction but this is the best you can get at the moment, so, don’t wait, BUY one! this is the time!

ATI Vs Nvidia!
ATI, the graphics division of AMD is working full force to win the battle which is going on between them and Nvidia, I know that right now Nvidia is the king when it comes to high-end graphics cards, their single gpu GeForce GTX 285 and dual gpu GeForce GTX 295 are unbeatable but ATI is taking the lead in mid-range cards with price vs performance ratio.
ATI, after cutting prices for their Radeon HD 4800 series has become very competitive for Nvidia in mainstream level.

Nvidia GeForce GTS 250 VS ATI Radeon HD 4870!
ATI Radeon HD 4870 is a performance mainstream video card that performs close to and in some games neck-to-neck with Nvidia’s GeForce GTX 260 (216 Core) video card and Nvidia’s GeForce GTX 260 (216 Core) graphics card is available for around $240.00 whereas ATI’s Radeon HD 4870 card sells for around $210.00, so, price/performance ratio wise ATI wins here.
Nvidia recently launched GeForce GTS 250 video card and Radeon HD 4850 video card which sells for around $150.00 is the main competitor of GeForce GTS 250. Benchmarks seen over at internet shows that GeForce GTS 250 takes the lead in most of the games over Radeon HD 4850 and GeForce 9800 GTX+.
If you will compare GeForce GTS 250 to Radeon HD 4870, GeForce GTS 250 will left behind by Radeon HD 4870 in almost all of the games, so, I don’t think there is any point in comparing GTS 250 with HD 4870.
This battle which is going on between ATI and Nvidia is not going to over here because when one company take some action the other one does something in it’s reaction, so, expect more to come your way, it’s good for you. 🙂

On March 3rd 2009, Nvidia has officially renamed their GeForce 9800 GTX+ video card to GeForce GTS 250 and this is the first gpu of Nvidia’s GeForce GTS 200 series and another card that is said to come from this series is GTS 240 which is a rebranded 9800 GT, this series of cards are based on Nvidia’s 55nm G92b core, Nvidia is schedule to officially rename its G92-based graphics cards series.
It all started with 8800 GTS rebranded to 9800 GTX and 9800 GTX get an overclocked version which is 9800 GTX+ in which Nvidia upped the clocks by reducing the die from 65nm to 55nm and finally it gets the name of GeForce GTS 250. Nvidia’s GeForce 9800 GTX+ was released in July 2008 with a purpose to compete ATI’s Radeon HD 4850.

Nvidia GeForce GTS 250

Nvidia GeForce GTS 250

GeForce GTS 250 VS GeForce 9800 GTX+
I know the whole internet is full of why the hell is Nvidia bringing a gpu that is already in the market, yes, there is no difference in both 9800 GTX+ and GTS 250, but, GTS 250 has slight differences and the main difference is a new VBIOS, also Nvidia set the standard memory for GTS 250 to 1GB instead of 512MB and some of Nvidia partners are going to launch even 2GB memory version of this graphics card. Another difference is GTS 250 length, this card has a 9 inches long PCB instead of large 10.5 inches long PCB of 9800 GTX+. Another change is that GTS 250 requires only one PCI-Express power connector instead of two power connectors and runs at maximum TDP of 150W which is good for users with older power supplies that have only one PCI-E power connector. Beside this slight difference between GeForce GTS 250 and GeForce 9800 GTX+, both cards comes with same specs and features.

Specifications
Nothing to get excited because GTS 250 is rebranded 9800 GTX+, 9800 GTX+ is an overclocked 9800 GTX and 9800 GTX is a rebranded 8800 GTS.
But still I will list specifications here, GPU clocks for this card are 738MHz and Stream Processors are running at 1836MHz, it has 128 Shader Processors and Texture Fill Rate is 47.2 billion/sec. Standard Memory configuration is 512MB or 1GB GDDR3 with a Memory Interface Width of 256-bit, Memory Clocks are at 1100MHz (2200MHz Effective) and Memory Bandwidth is 70.4GB/sec.

Nvidia high-end video cards, both single chip gpu GTX 285 and dual chip gpu GTX 295 with water cooling are reported to launch by two of the Nvidia partners.
Water Cooled GTX 285
EVGA is the first one to release a GTX 285 graphics card with water-cooling block installed on it. Though there is no design change in pcb they simply slap the water block on the card, despite the fact that it’s a reference designed video card it’s water cooling solution sure helps with better overclocking.
Clocks Of The Card
This card comes with core clock of 720MHz upped from 648MHz of reference and has 1GB of 512-bit GDDR3 memory which is clocked at an amazing 2770MHz which is default at 2484MHz and shader clock raised to 1,620MHz from 1476MHz. This card has 240 Processing Cores and at the moment it’s the best single chip gpu.

Water Cooled GTX 295
Now let’s move to dual chip gpu, here, BFG is the proud one to introduce a water cooled GTX 295. Alas it’s a reference designed pcb with default clocks, mean it’s not a factory overclocked card but a video card with a water cooling block from Danger Den installed on it, this water block covers GPU, RAM, voltage regulators, and I/O chip thus this graphics card works cooler than the one with Nvidia reference cooling solution, water cooling makes it a perfect choice if you like to overclock your card yourself, but still if you want a factory overclocked water cooled GTX 295 wait till the month of March, 2009.
Clocks Of The Card
Since it’s a reference card it’s both GPUs runs at 576MHz, it has total 1792MB (896MB x 2) of GDDR3 memory which is clocked at 1998MHz, shader clock is at 1242MHz and this video card comes with a total of 480 processing cores which is 240 processing cores for each GPU.

EVGA has proved again how good they are when it comes to customer support by releasing an SLI Enhancement Patch.
SLI Profiles
SLI profiles are a part of Nvidia Forceware drivers, they are present in a form of expandable list in Nvidia control panel. What these profiles does? these SLI profiles are needed for pc games and 3D programs to use two or more GPUs to their fullest extent, some games or 3D programs require specific SLI profiles build for them otherwise they won’t run or perform well in SLI mode. As you know every month several new games are released, even though Forceware drivers can run them we need special SLI profiles to get optimized performance from our dual-GPUs for those specific games or 3D programs. Since Nvidia takes some time to update Forceware drivers to bring SLI support for those specific games or 3D programs EVGA took the plunge to release their own enhanced SLI profiles.

Evga SLI Enhancement Patch

Evga SLI Enhancement Patch

SLI Enhancement Patch Info
This is the first SLI Enhancement patch (version: 02.11.09) from EVGA, Evga will update it from time to time, it’s available on their site for their registered users, this patch will improve the SLI performance in pc games Necrovision Demo (DX10 mode) as well as Burnout Paradise. EVGA recommends using this patch with NVIDIA’s ForceWare 182.05 WHQL driver suite.
Whom Should Use This Patch?
If you own a dual gpu card like 7950GX2, 9800GX2 or GTX 295 and if you are running two gpu in SLI configuration.
Operating System
This patch will work only in Windows Vista 32-bit and 64-bit as well as in Windows 7.

Nvidia GeForce GTS 250

Nvidia GeForce GTS 250

Some Nvidia partners are reporting increased sales in last month than year 2008’s last quarter. This impressive change was the result of Nvidia’s dual gpu card GTX 295 and single gpu card GTX 285 release. Also Nvidia’s GTX 260 55nm card, 9600GT and 9500GT cards are selling well too, specially 9600GT and 9500GT 1GB versions are selling like crazy. Buyers prefer video cards with 1GB of memory instead of 512MB even though there is no performance difference at all and even if there is any advantage it’s not much noticeable.
But Nvidia isn’t stopping here, they have more plans and one of them is to rename their G92 series, which will rumoured to come next month on CeBIT 2009 trade show in Germany. First card to get a new name will be GeForce 9800 GTX+, it will renamed to GeForce GTS 250 and second card will be GeForce 9800 GT to get name GeForce GTS 240, you have been hearing about these mid-range Nvidia cards to get renamed, now next month you will probably see them, if the rumours are true. Though these cards are getting new names specifications of these graphics cards are all identical except for a new VBIOS.
I don’t get it, why re-release a video card that is already in the market? who would buy it? let’s hope they come with some improvements over GeForce 9800 GT and GeForce 9800GTX+ edition.
